I'm confused. How is the kids' computer working if the TC is not getting the signal from the modem?
Can you confirm whether I understand your set-up correctly?
Cable jack > modem (via coax) > TC (via ethernet) > kids' computer (via ethernet)
Cable jack > modem (via coax) > TC (via ethernet) > iMac (via wireless)
If this is correct, I'm not seeing how the kids' computer is working.
The only other thing that I can think of is that the modem isn't releasing the IP address or something.

If people are still purchasing the existing displays I don't see much motivation in rolling out new ones.I think it's possible you will see Apple come out with a different stand-alone display for a different market segment.
Apple sells a boatload of laptops, and everyone where I work that uses them, has a screen in their office that they connect to when they are in. The ACD is just not the screen for this market segment. It's too expensive and has all kinds of high end qualities that these folks don't need (or even know about.)
We might see Apple come out with a screen something like that rumored docking station. Glossy, thin, built in isight etc., and made primarily to connect to your laptop. The screen part however, would likely be of "acceptable" quality only, like the one in the current 17" iMac, and thus cheaper. This is a fairly low-end, cost conscious market though and not somewhere Apple generally tries to compete, so who knows.

The whole resolution independance thing terrifies me. I just know we'll see some vendor or Apple have these annoying huge UI's that we can't shrink back down to their proper size. I mean the reason we buy this huge monitors is to shrink the UI and maximize free space right???

I'm a bit curious what the question, and the answer, was... :p
The question was could I buy a Mac Mini and Apple display at different times and still use AppleCare for the both of them and the answer was no, I could not. So I'm just going to wait or just get a cheaper LCD.

Well I may just be a fool but I thought that all WD hdds had the same connector pins. I've just taken apart my mbp only to find the (SATA?) connector inside is a different type than the WD's.
I'm just curious is there something I was missing that should have warned me that this would happen? Is there a way I can modify the WD so that I can make it my internal HDD?
That's all I really want.
My MBP:
15 inch Unibody (late 2008)
My WD:
WD10TMVV
I think this is it but mine is black.
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=450
Thank you in advance!
On a side note this is an extremely solid external drive and I recommend it to anyone who needs a reliable terrabyte.
The 1TB and 750GB drives of that particular model are not industry "standard" SATA drives. That Micro-B connector is attached directly to the mainboard of the hard drive. Instead of having a SATA interface connected to a USB board, it just skipped the SATA interface. This saves cost for WD and means you cannot take this drive out of the enclosure and use it in your MBP.

There's no reason to run Garageband on a secondary drive, unless of course you're taking a performance hit due to a drive filling up.
But back everything up, multiple copies of .aiff's, .aac's and especially .band's.
Thanks, man. That's definitely what I'm going to do now.

Basically, they want to strongly discourage submitting apps that have things wrong with them, especially more than one.
Test, test, test, triple check against the lists of reasons for rejection, and then test some more, before thinking of submitting an app to Apple. If you think there might be something wrong with your app, fix it first.

I cared. Geez, why so mad?
Can anyone give an estimate, based off of previous releases, as to how long it'll take for a public release? I can't be the only one itching to jailbreak my iPad2.
There might be an answer in the original thread posted.

I can't see this new iPod mockup as replacing the original iPod, but just falling into a niche market (as many here have suggested), with the primary focus being video. I kind of wonder if Apple will try and expand its market by providing 'content specific' iPods, with different designs for a user preference in games, photos, ebooks (a bit of a stretch, I know :) ). I mean, at this point, there's only so much you can do to reinvent the wheel, and while every iPod can still play music, different design options appeal to different buyers.

Not anytime soon, Apple's shipping the cinema displays with Leopard as desktop on the boxing now.
So do the MBP boxes still have Tiger displayed on them?

there are several threads on this at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ forums.
only the MDD PSU from Apple has the right Voltages, but the mods needed to make it fit the case do not justify the work involved, and then you have a botched up QS (and the risk of miswiring).
There is a reason the Ebay PSU's are fetching $100+, they cannot be duplicated easily. Best bet would be a Digikey or Radio Shack AC-DC Transformer with the +25V output.

Hey all, I currently live in Japan, and would like to get some experiences working at Apple. I haven't decided which floor I would like to work at, but it will most likely be the Genius Bar.
Now, to get in to my main point, is it possible to work at the Apple Store under the age of 18? I have no idea about the labor laws, work permit, and things like that, but I just to make sure. I saw on other thread that in state of Nevada, a person should be above the age of 16 to get a job.
BTW, I'm 17 currently.
Directly from the Labor Standards Laws:
(Minimum Age)
Article 56. An employer shall not employ children
until the first 31st of March following their having fully
reached the age of 15 years.
2. Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding
paragraph, outside of school hours, children above 13 full
years of age maybe employed in occupations in enterprises
other than those listed in items 1 through 5 of Annexed
Table No. 1, and which involve light labor that is not
harmful to the health and welfare of the children, with the
permission of the administrative office. The same shall
apply to children under 13 full years of age employed in
motion picture production and theatrical performance
enterprises.

If they had them, and consequently added probably $100 or more to the price of the display, would you actually commit to buying one... today?...Totally agree.
While they will probably update them eventually, the only thing they could really add today are things that the market for the thing doesn't actually need or want. Sure it would be nice if they were thinner, they are already thicker at the edges than the current aluminium iMac. But it's certainly not a show stopper that they are.
I predict the update will happen in conjunction with some real and necessary improvement in the design. Either by adding multi-touch (with associated arm-rests ;) ), or because they will be made more environment friendly perhaps.
I do think they could be a bit cheaper than they currently are. The minimum ACD worth getting is the 23" which is still basically a thousand dollars after taxes even if you get a refurbished one at the educational price.
