Hey
I'm planning to get a 160Gb iPod Classic to house my entire 110Gb (and rising!) music collection.
The EU volume restriction is not cool. I have a Nano 6G and it's definitely too quiet for me. I'm not splashing out on a Classic, just to have my iPhone 4 (apparently not restricted) perform better with my headphone collection.
So I'm planning to order an engraved 160Gb Classic through a chap I know in America, who will then Fedex it to me.
I'm aware I will get the worldwide Apple warranty; but also that if it ever breaks and I take it to a UK store I can expect to get an EU-Limited model back (in which case I'd be inclined to Fedex it to the US for him to take in to an Apple store to circumvent this!)
However, is there any danger that updating a US iPod with firmware via my UK iMac's UK iTunes account on a UK internet connection could install an EU limiter; or is this limiter hardware-based?
Any thoughts from anyone who has pursued this route (I can't be alone!) would be appreciated, Thanks!

Two of the places I frequently visit do not have wi-fi available. The only access is via plugging into a router with a Cat 5 cable. Works quite well with my laptop, which has a network receptacle.
But what do you do if you want to connect with your iPad? There's no 3G "out there.
There doesn't seem to be a network adapter that plugs into the iPad's port...or is there?
Thanks

Update: I got my Rosewill Trident X RNX-N2X wireless adapter working no thanks to "we don't really support Macs" Rosewill Tech support. I basically willed it to work. :p When I first hooked this up to my G5 Mac, I was getting a self generated IP address. I setup a connection to my home network, including passoword and created a profile. It said I was connected to my home network but I could not get online with it. I updated the Rosewill Utility, no help. In the Network Preferences Page, it also showed I was connected. So I started looking through the different pages of the Rosewill Utility. On the WPS page there were some settings like Config Mode, choices were Enrollee and Registrar. I have no idea what they mean but I switched it to Registrar. Then I noticed that a box for 'Auto select the AP' (which I have no idea what that does) was unchecked. When I checked it *vio-la* I had a good IP address and now I am online. Hurrah! Stumbling around sometimes, it actually works. :D:D No need to return it now.

Welcome to the Mac community. You'll find people here that have some great knowledge. I have a G3 400 and I think OS X rocks on it. Can't complain too much about speed. Going to ZIF it soon.

Wow - they do a really bad job in marketing this and getting the (formerly well known) name out ....

or its on myspace... but i don't like myspace.
I know the music isn't the best, its just recorded in the only available room in our house. I'm 14... feel free to give me feedback!
2 things.
Relax your voice a little and mix your voice a little louder.
Good work and keep practicing.

This isn't new, EXIF has location tags for a while; but most of the existing solutions only record location and altitude, not azimuth. I think I've written here before explaining that if only a camera included azimuth tags (and of course the already-recorded zoom and lens size tags) a company like Google could harvest the web for images and build a virtual world with QuickTime-VR like technology that would allow one to virtually visit and travel through anywhere on earth, if somebody had taken of a picture of the right spot. You have issues of lighting, seasons, etc, but if people set their cameras' clocks this can be handled too. Actually if you have GPS the clock can be set from the GPS signal, so that's better too.

If people are still purchasing the existing displays I don't see much motivation in rolling out new ones.I think it's possible you will see Apple come out with a different stand-alone display for a different market segment.
Apple sells a boatload of laptops, and everyone where I work that uses them, has a screen in their office that they connect to when they are in. The ACD is just not the screen for this market segment. It's too expensive and has all kinds of high end qualities that these folks don't need (or even know about.)
We might see Apple come out with a screen something like that rumored docking station. Glossy, thin, built in isight etc., and made primarily to connect to your laptop. The screen part however, would likely be of "acceptable" quality only, like the one in the current 17" iMac, and thus cheaper. This is a fairly low-end, cost conscious market though and not somewhere Apple generally tries to compete, so who knows.

I visited the Apple Store in Westfield White City yesterday (5th August 2010) to find out about and purchase an ipad. Once I had found an assistant to help me (the very excellent Dan), I was happy but my initial experience on entering the store was not a happy one. There were a number of people milling around but it was not overly crowded. Despite that, I was left for a while to stand aimlessly. After a few minutes a very bright and breezy female assistant approached me and helped with a technical query I had concerning my iphone. I then asked about ipads and she promised to find an assistant for me. She found Dan who was already serving a customer. Unfortunately he then disappeared. I waited....and waited....and waited and eventually had to make what I can only describe as a "public announcement" to all and sundry that I'd appreciate some help and that "I don't bite" :)
By this time I was pretty annoyed.
Eventually Dan helped me - he was really excellent and as a result I purchased a 32MB ipad which I am finding really great!
32mb is pretty small storage space :P

Does this mean the iPad 2 is more popular than the Galaxy tab in Korea?

True...and Apple can do as they wish. But sooner or later their high priced Mac line will have to drop a bit in price if they wish to attract the "I ain't paying more than $900 for a bleeping computer" crowd. :)
Why?
They've held this strategy for over two decades and the only time they were in trouble, financially, was when they abandoned it.
Methinks you know tech a whole lot better than you do how to run a business.

im pretty sure u can buy like a kit apple sells to test your knowledge of apple products and duties that come with the job or something like that to see if u are able to handle the Position of GENIUS. But i'm sure they will ask you why you want the job, why do you think you deserve it, do you have good people skills etc. and to answer the p.s. personally i cant stand super fresh haircuts, and idk about the shaving.
