schuffle??
His shuffle's had another scuffle.
Crap...I always type 'schuffle' when will I ever learn...
And you pointed it out to me in the past...
I guess you can change my sig to something to do with old dogs and new tricks...
Anyway, let's hope something new in the iPod universe is on the way no matter how it is spelt...

Some departments at some universities actually recommend Macs over PCs. But, like Mac purchases in general, that's a minority.

Horrible! I feel for you man. Why such a silly limit?
It's leftover from Prohibition. Heck, the state didn't even officially legalize alcohol again until the 50s.
What good is a state where you cant crack open an Old English for your dead homies? sad very sad
Oddly enough, malt liquor seems to be exempt from that law. All the finer malt liquors, including Olde English, Colt 45, and Mickey's are widely available. I think they have their own category for some reason. I also think they don't enforce the law that closely. I believe Rogue Dead Guy, for example, is around 6%, but it is easily available. Also, I have seen quite a few beers in the 5.something range around, so it doesn't seem to be a hard 5% cap.
Good god man. That's reason enough to move!
I'm working on it. :) I've been ramping up the job hut lately. I have been avoiding it, but I think I may wind up in DFW. At least I have a free place to crash there for a while. At least until the sis-in-law gets sick of me, that is.

My biggest question is: with final cut pro X do you still have to render EVERYTHING? if not that would save SO MUCH time! :D
No thankfully that was a key item in the presentation. It uses all of your cores/threads and renders while you work (finally).

I've never owned a slingbox, and remote viewing is a cool feature I'll use only occasionally, but I've been VERY happy with my EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 2 and 3 software. I'll be buying this app for sure--I'm just waiting to let the early adopters be the guinea pigs for Eye TV 3.2 :)

i couldn't help it. as I had just been working on a video running into all sorts of frustration as we editors usually do.. I was just as excited as the crowds with each new feature that was announced. can't wait!
some people wonder why people were so excited.. it's because the new features really take away ton of the frustrations we've always had with final cut. it'll save us time and make our lives easier. go apple!
and that price... apple is willing to incur opportunity cost (As professional video editors are willing to pay a LOT more for this, perhaps near 1K) for the hope of picking up tons of more consumer users... which they will. smart move.

one of the big things that stopped me from moving over to mac in the past was office, and the ability to play games when i wanted
having only recently made the switch -no regrets
i purchased office for mac, then i purchased iwork and omg i prefer pages for an everyday word processor - office has become too complicated and user unfriendly - i only use itonce in a while for pro docs creation

especially compared to the whopping $400 for Vista Ultimate Edition (now with more branding!).
That is a riot.
(And my money is on the fact that Vista is not done until SP2, not SP1. They are still fixing this sucker through launch, so they're going to need to patch it fast.

I do feel that for myself as an editor, if i were to take the time to relearn the latest version Avid, I still would not be able to do as much as quickly, and yes as good looking of an end product as i could with Final Cut X.
Saying that you can work faster on a product that hasn't even been released vrs. a product you haven't used at all, is rather pointless.

twoodcc may I ask if any of your setups have gone down?
Output of the team has gone down lately :(
My 24 hour average dropped in half but I'm back running. Next week or two will be off/on for me as I've been moving my stuff but once I finish my bathroom I'll be moved into my house and will be folding away non stop. I'm up to around 90-100k right now so hopefully that'll jump start things some more.

The 60 foot range limitation doesn't make this exploit pointless, as many in this thread have implied. The technology allows tracking of people who are known to pass certain points, like the doorway of a building or along a certain jogging path. Since the tracking can be automatic, the "spy" doesn't have to be personally within 60 feet of the "victim". Instead, the victim need only pass within 60 feet of any of the surveillance sensors the spy has planted.
So it's reasonable to make the point that this technique wouldn't be worth the trouble because other methods of tracking people are at least as effective and have larger ranges, but it's less reasonable to say that Nike tracking is of no concern because people can see other people when they are 60 feet away.
It's not really an 'exploit' per say, the device is doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. It's not even a particularly original problem since RFID chips have been around for a few years and are much smaller, cheaper, and can do the exact same thing.
The story is sensationalism at best in my view, using the popularity of the iPod and Nike+ device as a way to scare people.

Well, I'm waiting to be amazed. Apple has been pretty quiet in product releases as of late. I'd like to see an iPod that can play while on fire.

On the MacBook Pros the graphics connection was downgraded from PCIe x16 to PCIe x8 to get PCIe lanes for the TBolt controller.
Have the teardowns or other info shown whether that's the case for the Imacs?Oh not this again...
Why did you have to remind me?

hey op can we get some resposes here? (unless i missed them :P )
now going to a ppc forum to ask about buying advice for a ppc mac is like going to the apple store and asking if they sell macs.
if you want a g5 and you think a g5 would be worth it, and you are prepared to handle the issues that could and can arise with a older machine, then you should go and buy it; not hang around here.
that being said if you are thinking an intel mac might be the way to go then go that way! dont worry what people here think (we are all nostaglists). if the opions of some strangers on a forum matter so much to you, you better check your prioritys ;)
now in my humble opinion, if the op wants to be with the latest tech he should definatly get the intel mac, however if you want a good relable and powerfull computer based on ppc, then i would look at getting/makeing a maxed out dual proccesor fw800 mdd g4. put a sata card in, put a ssd in along with a bunch of mechanical hdd's dual disk drives and 2gb of ram(i think thats the max) and youve got yourself a powerfull computer. just my two cents though.

A couple of FYIs - A few people expressed interest in meeting again today at the Horseshoe. There's a "Best of Show" event that ends at 3:45, so the meet-up prolly won't happen until around 4:00.
If I make it today it will probably be on the late side. We decided to take the ferry over to Sausalito this morning.
Sounds like a plan, I'll probably see if I can make it to the Best of Show too so 4:00 seems better for today.
