The replacement hard drive is probably blank. You need to install Mac OS X onto the replacement drive before it can run. If you are sure there is a proper OS on the drive, hold down the Option key at boot and select the replacement drive if it appears.

The store's about 40 miles from me. I'm actually thinking of calling in and doing the shipping-based repair just because the drive is such a hassle.
Yuck. Yeah, if you can manage without the computer for a week, that seems like the easier option.

Yes. Switches are generally transparent "black boxes" that require no configuration. Make sure you pick up a gigabit switch if you need the speed.

I'm curious about those who gave this news a negative review?? Are they not for resolution independence? An upgrade to openGL apps behavior? QT?
I assume that QT being 64bit will rock the encoding times for h264... woohoo.
Good news. Nothing gigantic, but good news.

I was able to get it working. Thanks for your instructions. Now I need to wait for TW to improve their service so I can actually get more than 5 secs of video stream. I would be very interested to know if anyone who has TW cable has been able to get this to work reliably.
I think your problem has more to do with low upload speed. Your upload is not fast enough to serve the video.

I haven't ventured into the HD world yet so I'm not up to speed on the screen res needed for HD. I do however seem to recall posts lamenting for higher res screens for HD playback. If that is the case, then resolution independence would be a must. Otherwise the UI would become so small it would become unusable. Am I way off base here?

Since it is the Draft-N spec then I would assume it would.

Sure, but with G you cant 'mesh' network properly unless its all Apple G products. I assume we can expect the same for N.

And anyone else not seeing their iPod's playlist in iTunes after the update? The unit still shows up in devices, but I can't actually see the list of what's on it.
.
Same for me - the shuffle is there under devices but the list of tracks has gone.

Evidently those that just pick up the iPad and just start playing haven't played far enough. That works but for real newbies there is hope.
Once you get yours launch Safari. In the bookmarks drop down you will find the iPad manual. Every individual item, program, setting or what ever is expalined. At least it is in my iPad1, can't imagine they would take it out. You will of course have to be connected to the internet.
Enjoy your iPad, you will never let yourself be without it.

Despite my participation in the various SSD threads here in the Mini forum, I've yet to take the dive and install one, mostly because of the cost.
However, I've found out that by moving my user folder (http://jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/00E03B83-1ADA-406E-A940-396D39F598EA.html) onto one of my existing external 3.5" drives, I can get 'halfway' toward the magic speed boost provided by SSDs. Boot time (from power to login screen) is marginally faster, but going from login screen to fully-displayed desktop is dramatically faster. Apps also launch faster: Mail and Scrivener for example are loaded within one bounce. All in all, a perceptible increase in responsiveness: with 8GB of RAM, I'm quite satisfied with my setup for now (well, except for relying on the old Core 2 for video encodes, but that's another story...).
I'm genuinely impressed at the boost I'm getting with the relatively low-end gear I'm using (the stock 5400rpm Mini drive and a 2TB Hitachi 5900rpm hooked up via USB). Separating system/apps from user data is usually a good thing to do anyway, so it's worth checking out if you don't want to spend the money for an SSD at the moment.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I also installed OS X on a small 60GB partition on the outer edge of the Mini's internal to make that as fast as possible. In Disk Utility, whatever partition is at the top of the list is on the outermost area of the physical disk.

Just a couple of thoughts (background... I shoot a 5DII, have 750GB of images, and have a MacPro with 6.5TB of internal storage + external no-caddy drive bays for backups).
Don't buy 350/500GB drives. They're older technology, and they're no longer the most cost effective in terms of GB/$.
The sweet spot for GB/$ is in the larger disks - 1TB to 2TB - and these disks will also be faster, as the data is packed tighter on the disk surface. You'll read more bits off the platter for every disk revolution.
Make sure you have a good backup strategy in place - and design that from the very beginning. Back up to external drives and try and keep a copy offsite. I also use an internal partition as a TimeMachine disk - just for my boot drive.
Edit. Oh yes... one more thing. RAID IS NOT A BACKUP... and don't trust anyone who tells you it is. RAID will ONLY protect you against disk crashes, NOT against accidental deletion, theft, water damage, electrical glitches, virus action, fire, accidental damage which together are more likely than a disk crash. To be safe, you need three copies of data, one of which should be in a separate location.

I have a 4th Gen iPod Touch and I used Green Poison AND Limera1n, both of which says the jailbreak was successful but no icons were installed for me to install Cydia. Can anyone help?
Please provide more detail.
I don't know your firmware version (btw limera1n nor gp works with 4.2.1).
I don't know if your definition of no icon correlates to ghost icons or not.
I don't know if you used the loader to install cydia or not.
Please reply with the needed information.
