The first adapter is what I use to connect to my MB i7 now (i.e., going from Dual-Link to MiniDisplay). Unfortunately, the PC is a laptop with a VGA port (no Dual-Link DVI). So I guess that offers a second option, which using a Dual-Link DVI female to VGA mail adapter. Would that work?

You have to put identical processors in DP systems. I don't think a single core 2.5GHz and a dual core 2.5GHz will work. However, I think you can run it with only one processor. (DP x86 systems work this way)

So with Dev Preview 2 update 1 I am having collabd constantly crashing which makes crashreporter launch and take up a good portion of CPU. It is stuck in a loop and keeps trying to reopen. Is there any way to remove the server portion of Lion entirely(as I can't keep collabd from trying to start)?

Yep, but is it ethical to tax him at 90?

First, 90 was a number I chose just to make a point. Second, I think it's a gradient. Ideally, most of everyone's income should stay with them, people who make very little should be able to eat, have shelter, and the ability to move upwardly should luck and hard work reward them. People who make a great deal should pay, but not because of who they are, but rather because of their finances.

It probably wouldn't, but taxing him through the nose doesn't fit with the idea of rewarding success. Perhaps a better approach would be to incentivise charitable donations and working with charitable organisations.

Success is, I would argue, its own reward. Progressive taxation still rewards those at the top, who only pay higher taxes on their increases. Even when we had very high taxation rates at the very top, we had robber barons creating and destroying companies to enrich themselves. Lowering that rate hasn't created a manifold difference in the amount of overall wealth.
Historically speaking, the post-WWII period in the US featured a huge growth of the middle-class, a growing business and financial industry, major technological jumps, and all with a higher rate of taxation.

This indicates that growth and the middle-class are not inextricably linked to the fortunes of the wealthy. I'd argue that rewarding the wealth while punishing the middle-class is foolish and far more worrisome .

I have an Edison and a Richard Feynman that I know are 100% originals and they do not have a copyright line on them. Neither does my Picasso, my Joan Baez, my Ghandi, or my Hitchcock. Only the ones I have gotten from Germany on eBay have the copyright line on them....the Buzz Aldrins, and a set of 6 of the 22x28" posters all have the copyright line on them.

When I encoded Tron Legacy I ended up clicking on the Picture Settings at the top after selecting the iPad preset and changed cropping from Auto to Custom. From there I adjusted cropping settings down to 0 which gave me a resolution of 1024x576. During playback when there are 2.35.:1 scenes, there are lighter black bars due to the actual resolution of the video, but during the IMAX scenes those bars aren't there (of course the "iPad's" black bars are still there due to it's 4:3 screen). So basically the encode stays at 1.78:1 the whole time with "extra" black bars for the 2.35:1 scenes.

I never checked on the chapters option so I'm not sure on that.Bingo. You are The Man. Using the cropping option to set all to zero resulted in a 1024 x 576 movie with black bars during the 2.35:1 scenes.

    Thanks! :)

Screw Dvd Jon. He's a moron. iTunes is popular because it's a simplistic kick ass store. It's easy to use, and well organized. It has a great selection for a price cheaper than most CDs.

If he is a moron, what does that make you? Could you crack DRM schemes when you were 16? Can you do it now?

This is a useful fair use enabling technology. It will mean that iTMS purchased songs could be played on any player that has licensed Jon's work. It will mean that the iPod can play music from any store that has licensed Jon's work. This is a good thing for consumers, it opens up the market (assuming other companies license it).

This only happened because Apple wouldn't license Fairplay themselves. Imagine where the CD would be today if Philips had never licensed it. DRM makes a digital format operate like a physical format - Fairplay is Betamax versus PlaysForSure's VHS for example.

I keep seeing percentages but never the raw numbers. iOS and Android may be increasing their market share but is the market just increasing as far as the number of users? I would guess that iOS and Android aren't leeching customers from traditional handhelds so much as expanding the user base overall and their market share is increasing because that increased user base is only coming from those devices and not from the traditional handhelds (ie DS, PSP, etc.)

    http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/21/att-may-implement-speed-and-data-tiers-for-4g-lte-service/

    Click on link!

BGR has learned that AT&T may have plans to offer tiered data services when it launches its Long Term Evolution network later this year. The carrier apparently plans to trial two separate types of tiers alongside its LTE service: speed tiers and data tiers. Speed tiers will provide LTE data service at varying rates of speed depending on the plan a customer selects, similar to land-based broadband services currently offered by ISPs. Data tiers will afford subscribers data buckets of varying sizes, similar to the configuration of AT&Ts current data plans.

The carrier may also have plans to give subscribers the option to boost services temporarily for a fee, according to a document provided to BGR. The documents mentions Top Up Sessions, which allow users to increase their data allotment for the remainder of a billing cycle, and Speed Up Sessions, which will allow subscribers on lower-tier plans to speed up their service for a specific duration. The document does not provide any details in terms of what speeds might be afforded by each tier, nor does it detail how much data will be included with each of the various data bucket sizes. It is also currently unclear how many speed and data bucket options AT&T might intend to offer its LTE subscribers. According to the document, AT&T will begin trials of the aforementioned tiered LTE service plans in May for this year. Hit the jump for an excerpt from the internal AT&T document detailing the tiered data.

I will be using a 1 or 2 TB external to store everything else, but wouldn't moving my steam to the external take a pretty long time to load and play compared to the ssd? Load, read/write are the major reasons to switch to a ssd from what I gather. Not quite sure, as I am still learning about how all of this works. Thanks.

Depends what kind of external HD you are planning on using. A 3.5" external with FW800 will most likely be faster than your stock 5400rpm drive.

If you want to install games to the SSD, then I recommend you to get a bigger one so you won't run out of space immediately. Games take quite a lot of space.

well i've got a couple of friends playing the exact game on the i5 one.
They are telling me it runs alright, but sometimes they expirenced a little lag.

So do you think, buying the i7 would make it lag less or even better not lag at all?

I am trying to get my printer to work on my powerbook. It is a HP Officejet k60. On the HP site they don't have any drivers for MacOS, but they do have one for Linux. Will the Linux driver work on my Mac? I have tried installing it, and my Linux is a little weak, but when I try to run the make command it tells me I don't have a compiler installed. Now when I had Linux on my PC I rememeber I had to run the setup utility to install all the developer tools. Is this a similar issue? Is there a compiler on the CD that came with my Mac? If not, where can I download one?

Am I going about this in the wrong way? I thought that OSX was supposed to eliminate the need to install drivers and such. Cause my PC can use this printer withouut any drivers at all installed. In fact, HP recommeds that you just let XP do its thing and not install a thing from the CD that came with it cause it was pre-XP drivers. Shouldn't OSX be able to do the same? I mean I can see it in the Print Center, but it says "Driver not installed" right beside it and it won't let me add it.

I'm sorry, this is probly a retarded question, but I have had my Mac for less than a week now. And with school around the corner I kind need this printer working pronto.
